1. International Mountain Museum

The museum is a 15-minute drive from Lakeside and contains three main exhibition halls: Hall of Great Himalayas, Hall of Fame and Hall of World Mountains. The Halls are dedicated to mountains, mountain climbers, famous and tragic expeditions with many pictures, maps and equipment to give the visitor a real feeling of the challenges and dangers of mountain climbing.

There is original gear used by the early climbers and these people must have been tough, because their equipment looks light on and you can’t but wonder at their determination and mental strength.

Also highlighted are details of the history of the different climbing areas and this includes a description of the local fauna, flora, geology and the people who call these areas home.

As you exit, if are brave enough, you can try your skill at a 21m climbing wall and a 9.5m climbable model of Mt Mansula, which is the eighth highest mountain in the world at 8,163m.

2. Gurkha Memorial Museum
